A native to South Florida, Falen studied pre law at the University of Central Florida. Following college she spent two years in law enforcement, as a State Investigator, with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. At D.B.P.R. Falen built cases for the State Attorney based on economic crimes, unlicensed activity, theft and exploitation of the elderly.

Falen earned her law degree from Nova Southeastern University, during which time she clerked for the 17th Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office in the gang, political corruption and organized crime unit. She later arrived in D.C. after accepting a legal fellowship with the Council for Global Equality, a coalition-based organization advocating international human rights. Prior to going into private practice, Falen worked for the Department of Health doing policy work and drafting legislation.

Falen has volunteered with organizations including the Pro Bono Project, providing legal services to low-income families in New Orleans, Women in Distress and the Boys and Girls Club. She served on the Board of Directors and as General Counsel to Benevole, a D.C. based non-profit, committed to raising funds for community organizations. Falen served on the Board of Directors for the Chesapeake and Potomac Softball League, and as a Coach in the Women's Division.

In January 2017 Falen founded ADVOCATE Nonprofit Organization, a 501(c)3 providing pro bono legal representation to disabled U.S. Veterans. ADVOCATE stands for Attorneys Defending Veterans on their Claims and Entitlements. For more information visit www.VeteranLawyers.org.
